Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies organized an event titled “Bangabandhuke Kache Theke Dekha: Remembrance by His Contemporaries Part III” at the BIDS Conference room. The event took place on August 17, 2023, at 11.00 am BST.
Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic
Affairs Adviser to the Honorable Prime Minister, Government of the People's
Republic of Bangladesh; Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BB, Adviser for Power,
Energy, and Mineral Resources Affairs to the Honorable Prime Minister,
Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh; Mr. Rashed Khan Menon,
Honorable Member of the Parliament; Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief
Adviser East West University and Former Governor Bangladesh Bank and Mujahidul
Islam Selim a prominent figure in Bangladeshi politics, graced the event with
their presence, assuming the roles of distinguished speakers.
The event began with an open
and insightful discussion, as the speakers shared their personal stories and
experiences involving Bangabandhu. Dr. Mashiur Rahman, previously a CSP officer
who later served as the private secretary to the Father of the Nation after the
Liberation War, took the audience through a range of memories he had shared
with Bangabandhu. He emphasized that, to Bangabandhu, the essence of socialism
fundamentally meant the well-being of the people.
Adding to the discourse, Mr.
Rashed Khan Menon, an honorable member of parliament, offered his unique
perspective. Despite never being a member of the Awami League, he underscored
the relationship he maintained with Bangabandhu. The event's significance grew
as Mr. Menon, the Director General, Dr. Binayak Sen, and other attendees
contributed by sharing their stories of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman.
Consequently, the event became a platform that significantly impacted attendees
and unveiled previously untouched stories of Bangabandhu.
BIDS ensured broad
participation by hosting the event in a hybrid mode, allowing both national and
international scholars to join seamlessly through the Zoom platform. This
approach fostered a diverse exchange of insights and perspectives on
Bangabandhu's life and legacy.
